Women and the Right to Bear Arms...

I've been contemplating this post for months now...wondering how I can put into words just exactly what I feel on the topic of firearms and women using and possessing them.

I think the first thing that needs to be addressed is that using or carrying a firearm does not make a woman any less feminine. I believe that in this one area, women and men can be equal and it doesn't take anything away from either sex.

Here are some of my thoughts:

~It is our constitutional right to bear arms.
Amendment 2 - Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

~If we fail to exercise this right, we will lose it! This is speaking to both men and women. There are people already working to try and take away this basic right!

~Hunting..yes, I am joining my husband in hunting this year. We will be working side by side to try and fill our freezer full of God given, healthy as can possibly be, free meat to sustain our family. Talk about self-sufficiency!

~Protection...I want to be able to protect my children and myself should the need arise. Also, if you look at the world around you, the US is in a prime situation for civil unrest to break out. I want to be able to help my husband protect our home, animals, tools and supplies should this happen.

(Remember, the Bible clearly tells us that a period of tribulation is going to happen. Civil unrest will be putting it mildly! Things will get real bad...real quick during this time.)

My wonderful husband brought me to a gun safety course and paid for my class A license to carry. My wonderful father purchased my sporting license for me (hunting and fishing license)
I have my very own black powder rifle that is perfect for my size and hope to add a shotgun and compound bow as well.

My goal is not to come across as a gun toting, harsh woman....but to raise this as a real reality of a homesteading lifestyle. We can be feminine and still use firearms (trust me, I even wear dresses when I go shooting :P)

We plan on teaching our children (girls and boys) to not only keep a home, but use firearms as well!

Amen sister. I'm all for ladies bearing arms. I think everyone should know how to handle and shoot a gun.

Thank you for this post. I agree with you 100%. Our family is a family that pretty much lives off what my husband and sons are able to get each hunting season. My daughter also shot her first deer last year. We eat all of this meat and it sustains our family until the next hunting season.
I also do know how to use a gun and I'm thankful my husband taught me how to use it.

Amen! Thank you for sharing I had been struggling internally with some of this as I hunt with a bow and plan to with a rifle next year however had been questioning my decision a bit. Reading your post brought some clarity to the gun and hunting thing to me as you said helping your husband fill the freezer that is our main goal and I agree and will continue to assist him in this effort. We hunt deer and elk here in oregon and hope to get 2 of each between the two of us to get us through winter without having to purchase any meat from the store other than chicken:) Thanks again for sharing came at just the right time first time I came to your site right when I needed to hear something about this Isnt God Great!!
